Unfortunately, terrorism and violence have become a daily part of our lives. A little over a year ago, 49 people were killed in a nightclub in Orlando. Just last month, a concert was attacked in Manchester, and two weeks after that multiple people were killed or injured at an attack on London Bridge. When we are constantly presented with this violence, we can seek solace in Scripture.
How do We Respond?
One of the best things we can do in times of violence is remember to love. We can be comforted knowing that God is faithful to us and will protect us. There are some meaningful Bible verses and writings in the Psalms that can remind us of His love.
You can see in the Psalms some of the writers were struggling to overcome their feelings towards their enemies. Some people mistake this struggle as the Psalmists asking God to give them the tools they need to cause harm to their enemies. Instead, they are turning their fear over to God for him to handle and take charge of.
Comforting Bible Verses
“It is the Lord who go before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed”
Through this verse we can see that even in times of violence or despair, God is with us and is protecting us.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”
This verse shows us to not be afraid when we are experiencing troublesome times. God will give us strength.
“He sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.”
This verse is a great example of mourning and caring for those who have lost or suffered. God will keep us safe when we show compassion.
