Most Faithful Cities in America

Do you know where your city stands in comparison to the most faithful cities in America? Some cities have higher church attendance and more faith than others. The metrics used to determine the amount of faithfulness a city has are the number of people who claimed they regularly read Scripture, church attendance, and being involved in church related activities.

Here are the most faithful cities in America:

  1. Chattanooga, TN – Chattanooga rates high on the list due to the number of people who attend church in this city.
  2. Birmingham/ Anniston/ Tuscaloosa, AL – also ranks high due to number of church attendance, but also had many people reporting they regularly read Scripture.
  3. Roanoke, VA – The people of Roanoke ranked high on the amount of Scripture they read.
  4. Shreveport, LA – This city offers a lot of church related activities, and most of the population reported attending church regularly.
  5. Tri-Cities, TN – Tri-Cities had very high response of population reading Scripture alone and with family.
  6. Charlotte, NC
  7. Little Rock, AR
  8. Knoxville, TN
  9. Greenville, NC
  10. Lexington, KY

Overall trends are showing that church going and Scripture reading is decreasing across the United States. Some of the factors that go into determining the faithfulness of a city are important to take a closer look at.

“Churched”

In a poll completed though telephone and online interviews, people who responded that they had been to a church service in the past week, excluding a wedding or funeral, were considered “churched”

“Dechurched”

Participants who claimed to have once been active church goers but have not attended a service in the past six months were classified as “dechurched”

“Post-Christian”

These polls have been keeping track of the trends over the years and have deemed cities that show decreasing numbers of “dechurched” individuals as “post-Christian.”

How Does It Add Up

According to the evidence, the most faithful cities appear to be in the south eastern region of the country. The most “post-Christian” cities seem to be in the north eastern region.
