A strong team has a variety of different strengths and personalities. This ensures that a problem is able to be seen from multiple angles and that there are little-to-no weak spots.
Are you able identify why it is that your team does or does not work well together? The answer may be in their personality or strengths. Here are two inventories to assess your individual team members so that both you and they can see what they bring to the table:
Based in positive thinking and the idea that you can go so much further in life by working within your strengths than focusing on changing your weaknesses, Strengths Finder gives us our “top 5” strengths. After taking the test, the results will show, in order, which of the strengths fits us best. Options include any one of the following 34 strengths:
Acheiver, Arranger, Belief, Consistency Deliberative, Discipline, Focus Responsiblity, Restorative, Activator, Command, Communication, Competition, Maximizer, Self-Assurance, Significance, Woo, Adaptability, Developer, Connectedness, Empathy, Harmony, Includer, Individualization, Positivity, Relator, Analytical, Context, Futuristic, Ideation, Input, Intellection, Learner, and Strategic.
You may find that often a person’s weaknesses is a manifestation of their strengths as well. You can purchase a Strength Finder book and use the code in the back to take the test online. You can also research the strengths yourself at the Strengths Finder website.
Also known as Myers Briggs Test, this test assesses several different parts of a personality. The results are a 4 letters that are associated with a specific personality type such as ENFP or INTJ. This text measures, Introversion (I) to Extroversion (E), Sensing (S) or Intuition (N), Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), and Perceiving (P) or Judging (J).
Often you’ll be able to see what personality types naturally work well together with Myers Briggs and how each type sees different situations. There is an official version that costs money to take that is very in depth, but there are also cheap or free versions online that may yield results close to what the official test would reveal.
