Warning Signs in Your Marriage

Like all people, Christians may face difficulties in their marriage. This will happen to every couple, so the key is to identify the problem and find a healthy way to address it. If you know what to look for, you’ll be ready to overcome the obstacle together.

Problem: There is a lack of affection. Smiles, kisses, hugs, holding hands, and backrubs are all ways happy couples show they care. If your marriage is missing these, it could be cause for concern.

Remedy: Make time for the two of you. Plan a romantic getaway without distractions from family or work. You can rediscover that spark in most cases if you spend time reconnecting passionately.

Problem: You don’t do anything enjoyable together. If the only time you spend with one another is discussing chores, child care, or paying bills, you could be losing the qualities that brought you together in the first place.

Remedy: Don’t forget your spouse should also be your friend. Make time to do something fun together each week, whether it’s playing a board game or going on a nature hike.

Problem: You’re lonely, even if your spouse is with you. This problem can actually be quite serious, and is the number one excuse for affairs. Chances are your partner is feeling the same thing, so it needs to be addressed before it’s too late.

Remedy: Talk about your feelings. If you’re feeling pushed away, say so. Your spouse may be hurting from something you said in the past or an entirely unrelated incident. God wants us to communicate to build a happy relationship.

There are lots of problems that can plague marriages, but it’s important to spend time in the Word of God with every decision. He gives us perfect love, and by His example we can improve our marriages.
