What the Bible Says About Money

The Bible has instruction for any life circumstance including how to deal with your finances. Finding out what the Bible says about debt, giving, and finances can help you become wise about the resources God has given you. No matter what financial state you’re in, the Bible has a solution to give you peace of mind.

Proverbs 11:24: “One gives freely and grows richer…another withholds and only suffers want.”

This verse defines what God wants from us here on Earth. Not to make money, get rich, or hold on to our wealth, but to be generous with what we have. You don’t have to be rich to fulfill this proverb. You can give your time, talents, and other resources instead of money.

Mark 12:41-44: “Out of poverty she put in everything she had…”

This parable describes the parishioners of a church donating large sums of money while a poor widow only donated a single penny. Jesus explains that since the widow put in everything she had, her gift was worth more than the others. Wealth doesn’t mark our devotion; rather, the weight of our sacrifice is important.

Matthew 19:24: “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

This verse tells us that we aren’t saved on our own merits—no one can buy eternal life. It’s the poor in spirit who inherit the kingdom of God (Matthew 5:3).
