Worship Music in Church

It’s a hot button issue at many churches–worship music! There is almost always debate over what kind of music, how long the music should be played, who sings, and on and on and on. Unfortunately, this can become a fairly contentious issue.

But what does God think about all of this?

It’s important to remember that there is a difference between personal preference and what actually delights the Lord–the state of our heart. So if you or someone you know begins to struggle with the music at your church, being to pray and meditate on these verses.

He says, “I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters; in the assembly I will sing your praises.” – Hebrews 2:12

Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea. – Exodus 15:1

Praise the LORD.Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.  Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.  Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre,  praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe,
praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. – Psalm 150:1-5
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. – Colossians 3:16
Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn— shout for joy before the LORD, the King. Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. – Psalm 98:1-7
