7 Ways to Raise Money for a Good Cause

When used to help others, money can be an incredible blessing to those who give and those who receive. However, often we need to do a little fundraising to help bring money in to fund things like adoptions, church programs, and other events that require a large amount of money.

Hold a Yard Sale
They say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Some families have been able to turn unused items into hundreds of dollars in cash by doing a yard sale. If you don’t think you have enough items to sell yourself, consider organizing a community yard sale at your church or in your neighborhood.

Do an “Online Yard Sale”
Through apps on your phone like Decluttr, Ebay, or Let Go and on the Market Place function or “Buy Sell Trade (BST)” groups on Facebook, many people are able to sell items one at a time. This is a great way to sell furniture or other items that you don’t want to move down to a yard sale. Make sure to follow common sense safety precautions when meeting someone you don’t know to sell an item.

Partner with Bigger Businesses
Did you know that businesses like Chick-fil-a and Panera will help with those working to benefit a nonprofit? By selling you a bundle of gift cards at a discount and then having you turn around and sell those cards at full price, you’re able to keep the difference.

GoFundMe
This website has many different categories and you can create a page that acts as a donation collection center. On your page you can tell the story of your cause and then set a goal for desired donations. GoFundMe is easily shared on social media pages and via email. Be aware that the website does take a small percentage of the donations.

Start a Side Hustle
There are a thousand different options with this. Some people do mid level marketing, some write a book, some take on a part-time job like delivering pizzas or even babysitting. This is a great way to bring in a little extra income so that you can help fund your cause.

Write a Grant
Do you need a lot of money for this cause? Consider writing a grant for it? There are foundations out there that may be looking to fund the very thing you need.

Host an Event
If you have a lot of people who are invested in your cause and would like to help, consider organizing a larger-scale event. This could be a community bake sale, a 5k race, a church carnival, or even a concert. While there are cost associated with this method, if you budget and plan correctly, you can make a lot of money off of ticket sales.
