Is Online Dating for You?

Have you been single for a while or perhaps suddenly found yourself single? Have you considered online dating? According to Pew Research, it is much more common and socially acceptable than it might have been even a few years ago. In fact, thousands of people get married each year in the US after meeting their partner online. Did you know that online dating is a popular way for men and women in their 40s, 50s and 60s to meet other singles? If you’re considering it or think it might not be for you, either way you might want to consider the following:

Protect Your Heart

Before you start on the journey of online dating, you need to prayerfully consider and research your options. Websites like Christian Mingle, Match, and eHarmony are popular sites that many singles use. Consider what the right one for you is and then also pray that God would help you be discerning when considering where you are emotionally and what you actually need in a partner. Be aware of fake people and be aware of red flags that might indicate someone is catfishing you.

Be Aware of Safety

While thousands and thousands of Americans are getting married after meeting their spouse via online dating each year (so you know it works and it is safe) it is wise to take some basic precautions. Make sure you have a trusted friend who knows who you’re talking to and where/when you’re going somewhere with someone from online. Also, never share personal information with anyone online, there are predatory people out there. While that is not everyone, you do need to be aware of potential danger.

Open Your Heart

We all know someone who is single but feels very lonely. If that person is you, consider the power of saying “yes” to just getting coffee with someone. If you were to say yes to a simple date just once a week, you’d be meeting four new people a week. That drastically increases your odds of meeting a potential mate.
