Ways to celebrate July 4th

The 4th of July is a great holiday! Fireworks, food, and friends make up most people’s holiday weekend! If you’re looking for some fun ideas, try a few of the following:

  • Host a BBQ at your house! Make it a potluck and ask everyone to bring their favorite sides while you grill the hotdogs and burgers.
  • Get a group together to watch fireworks. There’s nothing like a great fireworks display, but they’re often very crowded. If you can, get together early to save a few spots!
  • Enjoy the great outdoors. America is filled with beautiful and diverse parks, beaches, and more. Whether you’re in sunny California, the golden plains of Kansas, or the mountains of Tennessee, the 4th of July is a great excuse to get out and enjoy the best this country offers.
  • Travel to Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and other historic sites. Everything takes on a new meaning when you see it in person! Perhaps this year or next, you can take some time to visit a few of the sites that are now famous from the Revolutionary War.

Here are a few more things you can do to celebrate this Independence Day:

Celebrate Active and Veteran Military

If someone in your community currently serves or has served in the military, find a way to thank them or do something nice for them! While this holiday is technically about independence, they’ve made a major sacrifice to ensure our independence from any other oppressive power! Remember that veterans often suffer from PTSD, which firecrackers or other loud noises can trigger. Ask them ahead of time what you can do to be considerate.

If you’re not already registered, now is the time! What better way to celebrate the rights given to us by this great country than to make sure your voice is heard and participate in the democratic process! While you’re at it, mark down all of the local and national elections coming up in the next year on your calendar.
